The Oscars: my recap
Before I begin, let me say this: I don't particularly like award shows. I'll watch a bit of the MTV Video Music Awards to watch who's performing, and I'll flip back and forth between the Oscars and a Law & Order re-run. But other than that, I can't be bothered. Award shows are some of the worst reality TV programs out there.

This year is different. My TV was on channel 7 by 8pm and my butt was on the couch. The reason? Chris Rock. The man is hysterical. The opening monologue did not disappoint.

Other Oscar observations...
The commercials during the Oscars were SO much better than the commercials during the Super Bowl! The very first Olay Regenerist commercial was superb. It was so clever, I actually want to buy whatever super-moisturizer they're selling, if only as a way to reward the company for selecting an ad agency that delivered.

Props to Pepsi on the Spartacus commercial. Again, clever. And the dancing cans commercial near the end of the program was funny, too.

I don't even remember Budweiser's Super Bowl commercial (it's been a long time since the days of the great Bud Bowls), but the Clydesdale snowball fight was worth noting. Even the Cedric the Entertainer dance commercial was good. (And I can barely stand the ubiquitous Cedric.)

The GM/OnStar commercials impressed me. Even McDonald's "sharing" commercial was notable.

Beyonce. Why? No, really. Why? Isn't she overexposed enough? And three performances?! I guess one foreign language performance wasn't enough. I don't get it -- was every other singer in town busy tonight?

Scarlett Johansson: You are not a princess. Please remove the tiara. Thank you.

Bad TV on the WB
I admit it: I love the bad TV on the WB . Except for Reba and Smallville (I hate those two!), I can't get enough of the cheesy teen dramas on the WB. Yes, I'm talking about non-quality programs such as Everwood, One Tree Hill, Summerland, and classics like Seventh Heaven and The Gilmore Girls.

My all-time favorites right now are Jack & Bobby and What I Like About You. (Who can resist the charm and humor of Amanda Bynes?!)

I do feel bad for my roommates.... They're often subjected to these shows. (Against their wills, of course.)

Martha Stewart, I am SO mad at you right now.
First, I sent you that letter shortly after you arrived in prison.

No response. Not even a freakin' publicity postcard.

And now, I get myself into a private, one-on-one meeting with the Burnet Productions casting guy, and I don't get the call about being an apprentice on your upcoming reality TV show. How could you?!

I considered canceling my subscription to Everyday Foods (you remember, the one I purchased in an effort to show you my solidarity as we're both women in magazine publishing). But I couldn't bring myself to do it. I guess I'm just not that vengeful.

But I am still mad at you for not giving me the chance to be your apprentice.

Any Brides-to-Be Out There?
I've been bridal gown shopping with more than a handful of friends over the past several years. I've logged hours and hours at bridal salons throughout New Jersey, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. But I have never seen a dress like this before.

I have no idea who these people are. A friend forwarded them to me. I felt compelled to share them with the world.

What I'm coveting right now
Topic: Coveted Goods
About a month ago, I came to the conclusion that I need a new wallet. A real wallet.

What I'm coveting right now is a vintage Gucci wallet. Black leather with a classic red and green stripe.

I'm checked eBay periodically, but no luck yet. There was one that caught my eye early in my seach, but I lost it to a sneaky last-minute bidder.

One down, eight to go
Topic: Marathon: NYC 2006
It takes 9 qualifying races to be guaranteed entry into the NYC Marathon. As of today, I've got 8 left to go.

Tonight was the NYRR 5K to support the NYC 2012 bid for the Olympics.

How do I feel about the Olympics coming to NYC? Pretty much the same way I feel about Wal-Mart coming to NYC: STAY OUT!

But who could pass up a 5K qualifying race in Central Park, during The Gates, no less?

A few other people had the same idea... The race registration was full days ago.

My very first post! (gasp!)

This is a big day... My first step into the world of blogs. Writing my own blog, that is. I've certainly read enough of them over the past several years. I guess that's partly what got me to this day in the first place.

Enough chit-chat. Let's get this thing going already.
